Foley & Lardner LLP is currently seeking a Research & Knowledge Senior Specialist to join their Research Services team. The right candidate will lead projects with team members and groups across the firm on knowledge awareness and implementation of solutions.  The Senior Specialist helps drive outreach and user needs assessment of the firm’s resources and services. The Senior Specialist provides high-quality legal and non-legal research and analysis to support the knowledge, business and practices of the firm. As a senior member of the team, they are responsible for training and mentoring other members of the team in best practices, work product, and managing workflow across time zones. This individual is also responsible for monitoring requests and communications to help manage departmental workflow across time zones. #LI-Hybrid

Responsibilities

  • Experience or aptitude to learn, understand and utilize emerging and rapidly evolving technologies such as prompt engineering for both extractive and generative AI tools
  • Responsible for successful and timely completion of legal, non-legal, and analytic research projects submitted by firm members
  • Analyze the effective use of existing legal technology and/or new legal technology service solutions and make recommendations
  • Consult with internal clients to develop research requirements based on firm priorities, and work with team to identify research needs to develop delivery of information and knowledge
  • Responsible for orientation and training, with emphasis on best practices, of team members
  • Specialty research in areas that include deep-dive analysis and deliverables
  • Knowledge in expert witnesses, judges, and arbitrators research and creation of in-depth reports
  • Provide statutory, legislative and regulatory history research and analysis and consult regarding the use of the latest AI tools for this purpose
  • Educate firm members on the legal technologies available, integration of these tools within the workflow, and knowledge management best practices
  • Facilitate the continual process improvement in the delivery of legal service by identifying the best practices and sources of knowledge in legal research technologies and knowledge management trends

Qualifications

  • Master's in Library & Information Science or related graduate degree (MBA, MIS, JD, etc.) or Bachelor's Degree with three (3) years of applicable experience required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a consultative role in a law firm with a solid understanding of the legal client/matter lifecycle required
  • Experience as a practicing attorney or paralegal preferred
  • Knowledge Management research experience strongly desired
  • Experience with legal research AI platforms including Harvey, CoCounsel, or Lexis+ AI as well as MS Office and Teams strongly desired
  • Aptitude for continuous improvement and willingness to learn and utilize emerging and rapidly evolving technologies
  • Advanced technical skills and experience with complex online research tools and platforms

In support of transparency and equity in the workplace, Foley provides salary ranges for all positions. The figures below represent the full compensation range of this position. The actual offered amount will be between the range minimum and midpoint based on the following factors: education, experience, geographic market, and internal pay equity at Foley.
Chicago & Dallas - $88,900 to $133,300
Los Angeles - $92,900 to $139,400
