The Director designs, implements and directs processes that position the firm to attract candidates who possess the skills, experience and potential to meet organization and client needs and who respect and promote excellence through teamwork, stewardship and diversity.  The Director assists all offices, through regional recruiting staff and each office’s Recruiting Committee members, with attorney hiring at all levels to ensure compliance with firm policies and procedures.  The Director supports the firm’s Chief Strategic Talent Acquisition Officer in determining the firm-wide lateral partner hiring priorities and developing and remaining aligned to a strategy for fulfilling those needs.  The position reports to the Chief Legal Talent Officer and works closely with the firm’s Managing Partner, Chair of the Recruiting Committee, Human Resources, Professional Development, Diversity & Inclusion, as well as other administrative and legal departments.

    Responsibilities

    • Direct attorney hiring for the firm at all levels, plus all hiring of patent agents, technical specialists, law clerks and public affairs professionals.
    • Maintain firm-wide recruiting data; prepare and deliver presentations to firm leadership on recruiting goals, successes, challenges, strategies and market trends.
    • Partner with the firm’s Recruiting Committee to update and implement effective entry-level and summer associate hiring policies and procedures.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with law schools’ career placement offices.
    • Direct all aspects of on-campus recruitment.
    • Develop effective brand and marketing collateral to support all of the firm's recruiting objectives.
    • Direct all aspects of the summer associate program including social events, summer associate retreat, summer associate productivity, summer associate evaluations and oversee daily operations of the program.
    • Manage and develop Recruiting Department staff including providing direction, guidance and feedback to ensure high standard of performance from all members.
    • Negotiate, review and execute contracts with placement agencies.
    • Work with Chief Strategic Talent Acquisition Partner, Chairman, Department Chairs, office and practice group leaders to develop and maintain updated records of lateral hiring priorities.
    • Serve as a liaison between legal search firms with respect to lateral partner candidates.
    • Communicate hiring priorities as appropriate to attract qualified candidate submissions, either directly or through legal search firms.
    • Direct all processes around lateral partner recruiting, including submission review, feedback and analysis of candidates, presentation of profiles to the Management Committee, and final due diligence efforts.
    • Additionally, be available to assist the CEO, Managing Partner and COO as needed with larger lateral groups and mergers.
    • Partner with Diversity & Inclusion to execute strategies that will recruit diverse candidates to the firm.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree required; JD preferred
    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience of recruiting or other position-related experience (practice in a large firm and/or other legal talent-related experience), which includes experience in a leadership role
    • Previous large law firm recruiting and/or project management experience preferred
